Indian Trail Theatre Raises Its Voice

Indian Trail’s theatre department is putting on its season’s first show. Broadway Junior Revue: Raise Your Voice is a show consisting of around an hour of straight song and dance. When trying to pick shows for this season, director Kristen Singer said, “I chose the show because when we did auditions last spring, I saw a lot of talent. And sometimes when you do a musical, there aren’t as many roles. So I thought, how could we give a lot of people experience and give a lot of soloists a chance to shine?” Raise Your Voice was the answer.

A revue features songs from many different musicals, all in one place. Raise Your Voice showcases nearly 50 students of various ages from multiple schools within KUSD. Singer says she is “really excited” about the show opening later this month. “It’s for all ages,” Singer said, “everything from Mary Poppins to James and the Giant Peach to Sister Act. And maybe some shows that people don’t know but also shows like Aladdin, which people probably do.”

Raise Your Voice is Singer’s first show as a teacher at Indian Trail. With everyone adjusting to the beginning of the school year, as well as it being her first year at ITA, she decided that it would be best to do a show that’s a little bit shorter, but that can still be impactful. Raise Your Voice provides exactly that.

Raise Your Voice was not only the perfect solution for adjusting to the new year but also for bringing in large audiences. “It’s great to bring kids to it’s great to bring older grandparents too. It’s like something for everybody,” said Singer. The first performance will be the perfect testament to this, with a matinee show taking place the morning of Thursday the 30th. Every seat in the Indian Trail auditorium will be filled with students from all around KUSD. Students of different ages, with different backgrounds, will be watching the cast telling various stories of people from various backgrounds.

Perfect for anyone, of any age, Raise Your Voice opens later this week on Thursday, November 30th here at Indian Trail and will be running until Sunday, December 3rd.
