Here at ITHSA, Ms. Amy, a newly transferred Art teacher from Parkside, is a professional artist often being in her studio. While balancing being an art educator and her career as an artist, she aims to influence her students to share the passion she has for art and its rich history.

The Pulse: What do you do outside of ITHSA?

Ms. Amy: I’m a professional artist, so i often am in my studio drawing, printing, and painting. I’m also very active in the Santos yoga community, so I do a lot of yoga.

The Pulse: What is you best advice to students?

Ms. Amy: Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be scared of rejection. Make a lot of work and try to apply for every opportunity presented to you.

The Pulse: If you never went into art, what would you have gone into?

Ms. Amy: I don’t know.

The Pulse: What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?

Ms. Amy:  I guess it’s challenging to balance being an art educator, where I make my living and balancing my career as an artist. So sometimes my career as an artist suffers because I’m not a full-time artist, I’m a full time art educator.

The Pulse: What is your advice on handling criticism?

Ms. Amy:  You have to take a lot of rejection before you see success. And i think you have to, you know, like, just become strong, strong minded. Not everybody is going to like you. Not everybody’d going to like your work. But, you have to believe in yourself and you have to keep going.
