Web shooting, crime fighting, and a whole lot of responsibility, comprise Insomniac’s newest feat: Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The PlayStation 4 exclusive puts the power of the friendly neighborhood protector into your hands, introducing a set of easily-learned mechanics, such as the most famous: web slinging. A simple push of a button and you’re swinging around the beautiful architecture of New York City. The option of classic web slinging is there, along with a fast zip through the air that speeds up travelling through buildings.

Whilst exploring the city, different side missions and objectives are presented along with collectibles hidden in various locations. The game introduces a new and fresh Spider-Man story that immerses itself in a comic-accurate interpretation of Peter Parker and his foes. By far, this Spider-Man has the best depiction of our hero, voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, with his kiddish fluctuations.

The game feels absolutely fantastic. Everything is so fluid and I didn’t have to deal with any glitches throughout the entire game.

A couple complaints of mine are that since this game was engineered for the PS4 Pro and I only have a standard PS4, the graphics were most definitely downgraded. Another drawback to play is the loading screens between cutscenes and gameplay. I was waiting for a solid minute to continue playing the story. It made the story feel a bit choppy.

My final comment isn’t so much of a complaint as an observation. This game is very similar to the Batman: Arkham franchise. That doesn’t necessarily mean that’s a bad thing. But as far as the gameplay goes, it feels a lot like that. At the same time, it makes itself a completely new game, and that’s impressive.

I had an amazing time playing Marvel’s Spider-Man. I would recommend it to anyone who owns a PS4 and is looking for a fun game to play. If there’s one word to describe this game, it would be fun.
