In the chilling daybreak of winter
Gusts of wind trace spindly fingers down my spine,
Stealing my breath away with each trembling touch.
Caressing the gooseflesh spidering across my neck.
A callous hand brushes against my cheek, beckoning me to follow.
I surrender to the deathly cold without question,
Stepping into the dark as ice crystals crack across my skin,
Silence of first snow screams a faint warning.
Icy hands slip around my heart, demanding warmth.
I embrace the sudden sting as I stand,
Frozen in time,
Mesmerized by the act of my own destruction.
