Communication is a strong skill to have in all sorts of situations. Baseball and basically any sport is no stranger to communication. Teams are built off hard work and good sportsmanship and the need to achieve goals that couldn’t be achieved without effective communication. By being able to huddle up and discuss new tactics, strategies, or tips. There is nothing wrong with letting your teammates know something that could most likely alter the result of the game.

“Can’t really play baseball without communication. Don’t know where to go, don’t know where to throw it.” Braden Wojcik, an ITA student and baseball player for the Kiwanis Baseball Club.

Braden plays for a baseball team under the Kiwanis Baseball Club of Western Kenosha. Each year the team gets switched around, meaning that some players are switched from team to team. During the summer season, the team wore navy blue jerseys with a different sponsor. Some from that season were also switched or left.  The teams sponsor is also changed, but sometimes they stay. This year, Braden’s team wears orange jerseys and are sponsored by Limbach Chiropractic of Kenosha, WI. It also depends how well the team performs and the choice is made by the league leader.

The team had a really good run during summer. However the new team with new players are having trouble working together and having that chemistry. As Braden said before, communication is key in teamwork, but lately that skill has been missing. Players are usually busy outside of baseball like work or school, which Braden believes could be preventing them from gaining that communication. The team has lost eight games in the last two months. Many of the players seem to be underwhelmed, but they remain positive nevertheless. Braden stays positive and tries to support the team for a chance.

The main goal for Braden is, “Get on base. Don’t make an error.” The team has had a tough run starting this season and many just want to go out onto the field and hit some eye grabbing swings. “Just want to win basically,” says Braden.
