CDS Prom

This year a group of students put together the second annual CDS prom. CDS stands for Cognitive Disability-Severe. This prom is primarily for students with special needs. Invitees came from all over the Kenosha district. This includes the STEP program at Indian Trail and Boys and Girls Club as well as all three CDS programs at Bradford, Tremper, and Indian Trial. The event was held the weekend before the high school’s prom. The reason behind this is to make the kids with special needs feel comfortable in a more familiar environment.

“It’s so fun to watch them all let loose and enjoy themselves. That’s always our goal,” said student volunteer Lexi Caruso.

The event was free for all the students. This prom is mainly youth led. Youth are responsible for planning as well as finding all the community support dollars. Many local businesses and families donated and National Honors Society held a fundraiser.

The event included a dinner catered by Jimano’s Pizzeria and a beautiful cake donated by Paielli’s bakery. There was a DJ for dancing purposes and a photobooth for memorable keepsakes. The students were all handed sunglasses as they walked in to correspond with the “Red Carpet Event” theme. The students could also find their name on one of the pink stars on the “Walk of Fame” as well.

“This night was so special because ev- eryone was having the times of their lives having fun and dancing,” said student volunteer Ferryn Lott.
