Valeo’s Pizza: It’s worth waiting for

By Matt Swihart & Joshua Navarro, Staff Writers

Are you looking for good food at a decent price? Do you want insanely long wait times? Then the newly built Valeo’s Pizza is the place to go, located right off of 75th Street, next to what used to be Urban Culture.

This new restaurant features a new option for customers, the dine-in, previously unknown to the already established Valeo’s Pizza on 30th Avenue.

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the view of kitchen staff working, large open space and the words “Say Cheese” in large vintage marquee letters. The whole place feels like a warehouse that was brilliantly transformed into an eatery. From the stained wood booths to the metal red and white tables, there is a cohesiveness to its design.

The first thing to mention is the wait times. Seeing as the restaurant is very new, the kitchen staff is still working on getting the hang of their new menu. A manager even came up and apologized for the long wait.

The total time spent at the restaurant was 90 minutes. The first wait was for a server. Having been already tested by the wait to be seated in a slow restaurant and the unsatisfactory feeling of sitting on a wet seat, it was very pleasant to have a friendly server. It would have been fantastic only if it had not been 20 minutes before being greeted by her.

After 30 minutes, the appetizers finally came out. Parmesan Bread Bites, a Valeo’s classic. Expecting nothing less than great, the kitchen staff did not disappoint with just the right amount of crunch and softness to eat like they were candy, although there was enough cheese in the center of the basket to feed a small colony of mice. Then again, they are located in the state of Wisconsin.

Another 15 or so minutes later the Buffalo Chicken Bomber was brought out. New to this location, simply put, it was pure culinary bliss. The bread toasted just the right amount and the buffalo chicken cooked to perfection, the bomber is an absolute standout among the menu. It’s a must have.

Eventually, the main entree came out, Valeo’s award winning stuffed spinach pizza. Now the presentation may not have been award winning, coming out with a crust burnt around the edges, but the taste certainly was. Valeo’s pizza, never a disappointing experience, was just the right amount of crispy crust, gooey cheese, and signature pizza sauce. It’s easy to see why they call it “award-winning.”

After a long, long wait, the server finally came back with our bill. As the kitchen and front of house staff continue to adjust to their restaurant environment, the wait times should get shorter. Valeo’s Pizza left us with great tasting food in our bellies, but disgruntled from the long waits. Valeo’s Pizza earns a 4/5 stars.
