Born into the Spotlight

At ITHSA, Freshman Evan Kohlmeier has started his high school journey. His journey was inspired by the musical arts provided at our school. His love for the arts came from his family. He went from watching them in the bright lights to being in them.

The Pulse: I heard you went to a private school before coming here. Are there any major changes coming to a public high school?

Evan: It’s a lot bigger, but overall it’s way better. I came here for choir and musical theatre, and it’s just a dream come true.

On the right, Evan played a Card Soldier in his first show, Alice in Wonderland.

The Pulse: How long have you been doing theatre?

Evan: I’ve been doing theatre all my life. My whole family does theatre. I was just put into it at a very young age, and I love it.

The Pulse: How did your parents get you into theatre?

Evan: My mom and dad had their first kiss in theatre, it was like a stage kiss, and that’s how they fell in love. And then, I have an older sister, and my parents put her in theatre. I watched her, and I was like, Oh, I want to do that. So then they put me in it.

The Pulse: Do you plan on doing theatre throughout high school?

In the center, Evan was performing in Between the Lines, a show done by KUSD Theatre.

Evan: Yes!

The Pulse: Are there any challenges being a freshman in theatre or in general?

Evan: I guess, like everyone had their friends already. But I feel like it’s a really good community, and it’s really easy to get to know people. So I wouldn’t say there are, cause everyone’s very welcoming.
