Indian Trail Junior, Edgar Martinez, is taking his art skills to make a statement. Growing up his family also inspired him to continue going into art. Edgar has always been an activist and want to show off what’s going on in the world one art piece at a time.

The Pulse: You are a very creative person may I ask what got into art in general?
Edgar Martinez: Oh, my family has always been very artistic! My brother and mother are both painters but, my mother also does a lot of different things. Just coming from a family like that being artistic just came very natural.
The Pulse: Why did you start putting politics into the art you create?
Edgar Martinez: Well, I’ve always been interested in stuff like history, so seeing the current state of the world and administration I connected it to my interests. Knowing i was already doing art I wanted to give awareness to current world issues that are going like racism, homophobia, and other thing I am also dealing with.

The Pulse: May I ask what activism have you done outside of your artwork?
Edgar Martinez: I’ve participated in out most recent walkout here at ITA, and then I’ve also been very vocal about my activism online. I share a lot of links and Gofundmes and resources to help families in Palestine and families effected by ICE.
The Pulse: I’m going to go back and ask when you got into art?
Edgar Martinez: I always have; I started with drawing and painting. I then got into digital art at about ten.
The Pulse: Do you plan on using this for the future?
Edgar Martinez: Yeah kind of, I actually want to be a film director and a SFX artist for horror films. I have a writing background as well; I’ve actually been working of scripts for a few years now!
