The Pulse: Can you tell us your name and, occupation at Indian Trail?
Jalisa: Yes, my name is Jalisa, and I am a prechef at Indian Trail.
The Pulse: What is your role and some of your responsibilities in the ITA kitchen?
Jalisa: As a prechef, I help prepare the food ingredients for the chefs to cook the food. I also help serve the food during lunchtime and also check out students’ food items from time to time!
The Pulse: Some students have opinions on certain lunch items and meals, and are not satisfied with the options they have for lunch. Some students would even say lunch is unappetizing. Do you think student lunch options are appetizing?
Jalisa: Yes, and we have many options for students. If one of the lunch options may not be to their liking, we have multiple main-course meals to choose from. For example, we could have a chicken sandwich, pizzas, and not only cheese but pepperoni as well, we could also have nachos, subsandwiches, and even salads all on the same day as options. Then for sides we have many options from an assortment of different fruits, and also French fries or a baked potato.
The Pulse: Wow, I didn’t know we had so many different options and all in one lunch day. Now that I am informed of the many options we have, that brings me to another question: Do you think School lunch is nutritious?
Jalisa: Yes, we offer many healthy food options like salads, sub sandwiches, and many fruits to choose from. We also have toppings for our main- course meal options like lettuce, tomato, guacamole, etc.
The Pulse: Do you think Indian Trail school lunch could improve anymore?
Jalisa: Yes, maybe a little more variety.

The Pulse: I agree, especially if the students may not be feeling the versatility in main-course food options, then maybe there should be a greater variety. Especially for people like myself who have certain food restrictions due to religion. I would love to have nachos, but can’t because they’re pork nachos.
The Pulse: Thank you, Jalisa, for expanding my knowledge on what it is that goes into making our lunches, and also helping me explore the options we have.
Jalisa: No problem, have a good day!
