The Indian Trail High School and Academy 2014-2015 aca- demic school year kicked off on Sept. 2 with Indian Trail’s 2,400 plus students and staff coming back from a well-deserved summer break. As students get prepped for the new school year, Art Preuss, longtime counselor at ITHS&A, offered tips as to how to start the school year off with success.

“(It is) important to be organized and to be on time to each of your classes,” Preuss said. “Every student should set up a schedule for doing homework and studying.”

According to schoolcounselor.org, disorganized students have a higher potential to receive lower grades, complete fewer assign- ments, be less motivated, experience greater frustration with school and have lower self-esteem.

Therefore, Preuss recommends students to “stick to [their] schedule” throughout the school year for the best results.

Rebecca Johnson, an Indian Trail junior, follows this philosophy and said she likes to study hard during the beginning of the school year and get organized with her schoolwork.

As students start to settle down in their classrooms, Preuss looks forward to the school year ahead.

“I like to be optimistic and think the school year will go very well. We have a great group of students and staff, and if everyone is focusing on what he or she is doing we will enjoy much success,” he said.
