Rihanna launches new makeup line

In 2017, Barbadian singer and actress, Rihanna launched her makeup line, Fenty Beauty. This groundbreaking makeup line is not only popular because of who endorses the product, but because it is the first makeup line to have 40 different skin tone foundations.

Rihanna was inspired to create Fenty Beauty after years of experimenting with the best-of-the-best in beauty—and still seeing a void in the industry for products that performed across all skin types and tones. She launched a makeup line “so that women everywhere would be included,” states Fentybeauty.com, the brand’s official website.

The formula used in the brand’s famous foundation, Pro Filt’r Foundation, is created to feel lightweight and have buildable coverage. Although her foundation is one of the most popular products the brand makes, the makeup line offers more products that have all racked up great reviews.

Rihanna’s products — Killawatt highlighters, Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer, Mattemoiselle Lipsticks, Invisimatte Blotting Paper, and Match Stix Skinsticks used to conceal, contour, and highlight — are all very successful products the brand sells.

I personally am a very picky person when it comes to makeup and what I put on my face, so I decided to try out the products and see if the brand lives up to its great name and reputation, or if its success may be based on who endorses it.

With the help of the workers at Sephora, I was able to try out Rihanna’s Pro Filt’r Foundation, Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer, and Killawatt Highlighter. Using Sephora’s foundation color IQ, I was matched with a light neutral color (#120). Upon application, the foundation left a soft, smooth feeling on my skin. The foundation is oil free to provide a matte look. Because of the formula being oil free it works best with oil prone skin, but can also work with dry skin.

The coverage of the foundation was absolutely outstanding. In no way does it play around, it’s the real deal. Although it’s easily buildable, I did not find it necessary because it was full coverage from the beginning; it gives you coverage without feeling like there is a pound of makeup on your face. The only downside about the foundation is that as it oxidized, the color did darken a bit. For the price of $34 for a decent-sized bottle, I’d definitely make this purchase without regret.

The second product I tried was the Killawatt Highlighter in the shade Pink Sheen. As soon as I applied the highlighter, I instantly felt that it was necessary to apologize profusely to anyone around me for blinding them with the shine that was coming from  my cheekbone. The highlight felt soft and popped like crazy. Although the product was amazing, $34 may be a bit too pricey for the size of the container. If it was less expensive, I would have left the store with a new highlighter.

Saving the best for last, I tried the Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer. Hearing my friends talk greatly about this lip gloss, I entered Sephora with high expectations for it. After wearing it, I can 100 percent say all of my expectations were successfully met. The slight color of the lipgloss was adorable and the formula was hydrating, but not sticky like your typical lip gloss. This product impressed me the most, I had to make the purchase and bless my makeup collection with some Fenty lip gloss.

Overall, I can confirm that not only is she a queen of today’s music charts, but Rihanna has done the unthinkable and successfully created an exceptional makeup line. I would give this line four stars out of five. RiRi has officially done it again.
