With a plethora of new games coming out in the fall and winter of 2022, one of the most highly-anticipated is Splatoon 3 on the Nintendo switch. This is the third installment of the game series, having the first game being released in 2015 on the Wii U (a highly controversial gaming console released in 2012). Splatoon 3 released on September 9th this year, featuring new mechanics and weapons.

The new main mechanic of the game is called squid dashing, a new feature that allows players the ability to dash through the air while jumping in squid form. This adds a whole new feeling to the game, bringing a new method of movement that can allow players to get out of tough situations or quickly jump on the enemy.

Splatoon 3 also introduces a new story mode called Return of the Mammalians, which follows the same narrative as previous having you as the main character rescue the Great Zap fish from the Octarians. The levels throughout the story mode has you go through several puzzles, though it begins to get repetitive at the end of the game. The final stage of the game gives you a pleasant surprise and a rigorous challenge, and once you defeat the boss, you gain cosmetics and a weapon from the story mode to use in the multiplayer matches.

Two new main weapons were introduced into Splatoon 3. This includes the Tri-Stringer, a bow that shoots three projectiles with a trail of ink following behind before exploding. Another weapon is the Splatana Wiper, which is a melee weapon that when swung dishes out a horizontal arch of paint. When charged up, it can create a large vertical arch of paint that can deal damage in a short but wide distance.

The Splatoon series is one of Nintendo’s most popular titles to date, selling millions of copies every time they release a new addition to the series. It’s made itself into a classic title, a part of Nintendo’s arsenal of games and with the new release. It’ll bring more popularity to its unique take on multiplayer shooters.
