Spring Break is almost here for Indian Trail students and if you’re not lucky enough to be going away, there’s plenty to do in our hometown. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Kenowhere is boring.” But you’re wrong. The Kenosha area offers a wide variety of entertainment, shops, restaurants, and hang- outs.
The Shoppes at Prairie Ridge, the new shopping center by White Caps, is a great place to start. It has something for everyone: sports equipment, clothes, animals, and games. The restaurants vary from subs to Asian cuisine, pizza to frozen custard to even a steakhouse. If you want something more casual, Starbucks is peaceful and has delicious drinks.
Another great area is Southport Plaza, the strip mall near the school. It has stores for home decor, more clothes, and more animals (so cute!). Tinseltown has new movies every week and enough seats for a big group of friends or just you and your boo. HuHot, the Mongolian grill, is an escape from the mundane as you make your own combination of meat, noodles, vegetables, and sauces and watch it cook before your very eyes.
Just down the road from that is Guttormsen Recreation Center where you can bowl for just $1 a game on Mondays or pay $12 to go Cosmic Bowling on Friday nights.
Downtown Kenosha is the jackpot for all things not boring. Public museums, beaches, a toy store, a pottery barn, a comic book store, a farmers market, and a trolley that goes around the streets. Satisfy your stomach at Common Grounds, Trolley Dogs, Big Star, Sandy’s Popper, or Scoops. If you’re feeling nostalgic, there are even a few playgrounds where you can sit on the swings and reminisce.
In the Pleasant Prairie area, Lake Andrea has a 2.3 mile track to run, walk, or bike. If you’d rather exercise inside, the RecPlex and IcePlex are an inex- pensive way to spend the day staying active. Or you can burn those calories walking around the Prime Outlets (buying something is just an extra bonus).
With all of these opportunities and many more, how would anyone not want to spend their spring break in the greatest Southeastern county of Wisconsin? Like anything else, on the outside Kenosha seems like a little old town, but when you look closer it’s full of great people and great places.
