The game of soccer is finding a new place in the sports world and here in the United States. Since soc- cer started here in 1974, leagues of American youth, ages 5-19, have grown from 100,000 members to about 3.2 million members, according to the U.S. Youth Soccer Association, Inc.
It’s no different here at Indian Trail High School & Academy. Entering the fifth year of its soccer pro- gram, the number of students trying out for the team has continued to grow each year, said Eric Corbett, Indian Trail athletic director. Corbett also added that he is excited for the program and sees a bright future for this team.
Indian Trail soccer is only getting better by the year.
“We have confidence every time we step on the field,” said varsity forward Dorian Perret, a General Studies senior.
Indian Trail soccer is not known for starting off hot, but this season did not stand by that statement. The team began its season with a 5-1 record (at press time) and a tournament win.
“It’s the little things that have been improving each year,” said Coach Jeff Laurent. “We are taking little steps to progress into a great program.”
The tournament held at Indian Trail last month, the Indian Trail “Hawk Cup,” was very competitive. Indian Trail did go on to beat JV Warren 2-1, Bradford 4-2, and Nicolet 3-1 to win it all. Varsity striker Austin Hoecherl, a senior in the Kenosha Military Academy, scored in each of these games, and a total of four goals combined.
