On Oct. 12, a Sunday evening, the fifth season of debatably the most engrossing show of the 21st century premiered. A total of 17.3 million people sat in front of their TVs to tune in to The Walking Dead’s return. That is more people than had watched Sunday Night Football that night.
Most people know and watch the post apocalyptic show, but strangers to the show wonder why.
The show started becoming popular within its third season and has been gaining more and more viewers with each episode. The setting is the doomed nation of America after a zombie outbreak started, or as the characters refer to them, “Walkers.” The show focuses on the life of the central character, Rick Grimes, and his struggle in the end of society. The first two seasons mainly focus on the Walkers and the problems they present, but season three started to explore a different, and more frightening aspect of this new world… the humans.
This season kicks off after Rick and his group have been captured by the people of the faux utopia “Terminus.” Right away, the show starts with a bang as the characters struggle to escape the cannibalistic humans that oversee Terminus. Major character growth has already been witnessed in this season, including the introductions of new characters which fans of the Walking Dead comic will recognize. The special effects and acting are top notch, as usual, and each episode has a unique plot that intertwines very neatly in the show. The questions multiply as each new episode airs and people everywhere in offices and schools are discussing The Walking Dead.
There are both positive and negative outlooks on the show, one con being that the main focus isn’t the Walkers, a pro being that they aren’t solely focusing on the Walkers. Through and through, rottentomatoes.com has given The Walking Dead season 5 an average rating of 8.8/10, administrators of the site and its users gave it nearly 100%.
The rating here will be 4.5/5 stars.
