The BBC show Doctor Who has been airing for a little over 50 years. Its 51st anniver- sary was on Nov. 23. Doctor Who is on the eighth season, or series, of its reboot and now with a new Doctor. The Doctor is the last of his kind, the “Time Lords,” since his home planet Gallifrey was destroyed. Ever since then he has been running to save other planets from the same fate, especially since he was the one who was pushed to destroy Gallifrey.
The Doctor’s time machine, the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) can take him and his companions anywhere and anytime that ever happened and it is a key part of the Doctor’s efforts. He is over 1000 years old, so to survive he must regener- ate. This means that when he dies, his personality and face dies and is replaced with a new one. This season’s Doctor is the 12th and is played by Peter Capaldi.
And what is the Doctor without his companion? Clara Oswald returns as his compan- ion this series, who is played by Jenna Louise Coleman. The episodes each take place in a different time period and planet that the two work to save. The 12th Doctor is very good, although this series is lacking the charm that the past few Doctors have had. The Doctor continues to have an existential crisis of some sort every episode, while Clara continues to whine and dwell on the fallen 11th Doctor. Aside from that, the series is very interesting and different, considering the Doctor’s new form is actually older rather than younger, unlike all his regenerations the past few series.
The average rating is 4/5, but I will give this series a 3.5/5 stars.
