KUSD Theater’s latest play was based on the Broadway production of The Addams Family. The first thing I noticed was that it was not just any play; it was a musical. This was surprising to me because it was not advertised as a musical. Not that I did not like the old song and dance numbers because they were not half bad. The singing was fairly decent and easy to listen to. The choreography wasn’t the best though.
Although I did not find the dance routine that satisfying, the acting certainly was. Actors such as Brandon Howe (Gomez) and Noah Gospodarek (Lurch) truly dedicated themselves to their characters and made the production a great experience. The entire cast deserves much praise for an exceptional performance. They were warmly received by a full house (not the hit TV show starring Bob Saget) of theatergoers.
There was a fascinating set design to go along with a sharply told story. The set resembled the inside of the Addams family’s house and it was as if you were actually inside the main hall. Along with an interesting story, there were a few good zingers here and there that, I’ll admit, had me chuckling.
Ending on a high note with a certain well-known musical number, “Thriller,” The Addams Family was a good play. In total, they may not win a Tony but it wasn’t half bad. 8.27 Thumbs Up (that’s out of 10).
