In early 2008, the show Breaking Bad premiered and captivated audiences. After five, ground-breaking seasons it reached its end with a more- than-satisfying series finale. With the story of Walter White over with, it was decided a new spin-off series would be created, Better Call Saul.
Based on the clever, criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, Better Call Saul has kicked off with a bang. The series takes place six years before the time period of Breaking Bad. The main plot is centered on Saul, who is at the time still going by his original name Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk). Back in this stretch of time he is trying to stay away from a life of any type of crime for Chuck (Michael McKean), his sick brother. Though because his lawyer career isn’t exactly taking off, he has been getting into a little trouble with a couple different money-making schemes.
It is worrisome at times when a spinoff comes out from a great show, and won’t live up to the original. So far, I believe it has lived up to expectations, bringing original characters and storytelling to the table. It gives off the same intensity and suspense delivered by Breaking Bad. I believe Better Call Saul will make a name for itself in television history. I give it 9.11 thumbs up.
