… Dary! Post-Oscars wrap up

MatthewBy Matt Murphy, staff writer

On Sunday Feb. 22, the 87th annual Academy Awards were aired and there were quite a bit of shockers. Let’s start with the main shockers for starters we found out that Lady Gaga can sing without you wanting to bang your head through your T.V.

We also shall not forget that John Travolta’s hair was blacker than most people’s suits and Jared Leto must have just got out of filming a Skittles commercial after sporting that awful light blue tux he was wearing. One of the most surprising things of the night is that the Academy can even make the jokes of one of the funniest people ever, the great Neil Patrick Harris, jokes fall flat.

The most important events of the night were not what the stars had on or comedic timing, but the awards won on this amazing night. To go through all of the awards given out on this night would take pages, so I’ll sum it up in less than the three and a half hours the award ceremony took. The winner of the best supporting actor award went early in the night to the great J.K. Simmons. No matter where you know him from Law and Order or as the hard headed Daily Bugle editor in the original Spider-Man movies or even as he new role as Fletcher in Whiplash I think we can all back the choice to give him the best supporting actor award.

There were many other winners on this great night, such as Eddie Redmayne snagging best Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s best physicists, in The Theory of Everything. While many people just know Stephen Hawking as the guy that was super smart and used

While best picture and best director went to director Alejandro Gonzalez and his great movie Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance, a movie about a washed up actor who used to play a superhero and was a star and won’t let go of his ego, but no longer has the star status to back it up. This movie is great. You laugh, you cry, sometimes at the same time, which is pretty hard to do. It also took home the Oscar for best cinematography, which I can’t agree with after watching

Other notable winners were Julianne Moore winning best actress in Still Alice, Big Hero 6 for Best Animated Feature Film. There were many other winners of this great night ABC news online has the rest of the winners if you want to know the rest.

Overall the night was great.

We laughed sometimes and they tried to keep the ball rolling, which after we saw the James Franco disaster, is something they need to restore faith in the Oscars.
