Coming off the previous season as conference champions and just missing one game to state, the Indian Trail Boys Baseball team is ready to make that dream become a reality this year. Coach Michael Schmidt is hopeful that the team will take hold of the conference title yet again this year.
Junior Gavin Lux is also confident about the season. Even after Indian Trail graduated a few key players last year, he’s not worried.
“I think we will be just as good as last year. We replaced our [graduated] seniors with some really good young talent,” said Lux.
The team record at press time stood at 12-4, including a win against top- ranked Arrowhead High School, which has six players committed to play at the NCAA Division I collegiate level.
Lux and Schmidt both agreed that the cross town rivals are always the best ones to play.
“Y ou have got to bring it each and every game no matter who you play, but the ones against Tremper and Bradford are always fun,” said Schmidt.
“[We have] a fun group of young men to be around with a bunch of talent. I encourage everyone to come out and support the team. The players would be very appreciative,” he said.
