At the end of April, Sarah Gapinski and her sculpture students finished their commissioned piece for the Amazon Fulfillment Center here in Kenosha. The sculpture, which is shaped like a globe, will sit in the entrance to the Center.

Both Gapinski and her students are relieved to have finished it.

“It’s been a lot of work,” said Tara Smith, Indian Trail High School senior. “It’s nice to see it come together and look how we wanted it to look.”

Gapinski is very proud of the students who worked on the sculpture.

“I don’t think it will hit them until they see it in the Fulfillment Center,” said Gapinski. “ I remember making something for my middle school and being so excited to see it all put together and displayed in the school as a permanent piece. I can’t believe I still remember that feeling and I know that most of my students will have that same feeling in the end.”

Everyone agrees that teamwork has been a learning process.

“Having to combine all the ideas to satisfy everyone was a learning experience,” said Smith.

Fellow senior Kaitlyn Hollifield agrees.

“We’ve learned to work with different types of people and to problem solve,” she said.

All in all, the project was a success.

“There were so many people involved in this project besides my students, within and outside of the school. It is a great feeling to feel so supported,” said Gapinski.
