The play To Kill a Mockingbird was a wonderful adaption of the book written in 1960 by Harper Lee. The story, narrated by Maddy Scheiber, takes place in the 1930s in Maycomb, Ala., following young Jean Louise Finch as her eyes are opened to the racism all around her.
Indian Trail’s stagecraft classes did an excellent job putting together the sets that were primarily lit with a yellow hue, giving the whole play a sunny, warm feeling. All the actors played their parts very well, with minimal word slip ups, which only made the speaking more realistic. The presentation was different than any play I’ve ever been to, with the audience on stage with the cast performing up close.
Overall the play was well performed by the whole cast including Lexi Olivares as Scout, John Bush as Jem, and Alan Frasheski as Atticus. Although some scenes were missing due to the time limit, the play mainly followed the book. If the author had seen it, she would have been very proud.
The next theater performance will be Dogfight at Bradford High School in late October.
