The Communications Academy is well known for their art. From the basics of design and drawing to advanced graphic design and illustrations, many of the academy students shine in the eyes of their teachers. Kaelyn Cline is an excellent example.

“Her work is outstanding,” said Graphic Design teacher Katie Sciarra. “She follows me exactly and on top of that she has all the qualities.” In Sciarra’s classroom, there are posters that explain what qualities she is looking for. Best each day, done with thought, done with precision, done with pride, advanced technique, solves the problem, pleasing to look at, and done on time. She also uses a four-three-two-one scale on her rubrics.

“When you get a four, or advanced, from me, it means that you did all the right buttons, pushed all the right stuff,” said Sciarra. “Then on top of it you’ve got that aesthetic, just pleasing to look at, and her [artwork] is just always outstanding.”

Cline has been drawing since she was young, and likes to draw when she gets home.

“I’ve always drawn a lot, starting when I was little. I liked drawing and just putting colors together in different ways,” she said.

She prefers using Photoshop and is inspired by movie posters, especially the way the characters are placed, and the effects added on.

“She’s not necessarily the person who takes the first image off the first page of a Google search and she’s really on point with that pleasing to look at,” said Sciarra.

Although she has a bit of time to wait before college, she said she wants to continue in art and go on to become a graphic designer after college.
