Every year at Indian Trail High School and Academy, the MedSci Academy puts on an expo for the entire school to attend. Every grade in the MedSci participates in the expo, working with each other in different grades. The students have been working really hard to make sure the expo is ready.
“Since the beginning of the year we fixed mistakes and planned little things from last year. We hoped everyone enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed preparing for it,” said Taskin Saiyed, an Indian Trail MedSci senior.
Every year the students and teachers choose a different topic for the whole expo. This keeps the expo interesting to the student body.
“Each year we vote themes and this year’s theme happened to be Grey’s Anatomy Hospital theme,” said Saiyed.
“The teachers assigned the topics and each grade has a different system and project according to that system,” said Tracy Metzler, a MedSci teacher.
Getting everything prepared for the expo had its challenges to some of the students.
“It’s all challenging but the research,” said Aubree Earnest, an IT senior.
“Getting the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors prepared for our theme,” said Taskin.
The expo hasn’t been in existence for that long. Only a fews years ago is when it all started. A lot of people want to know what the real purpose of the expo is.
“The purpose of the expo is to integrate cross curricular information, and it brings history. It teaches communication skills, planning, working with others, time management, creativity and all the students are working together,” said Metzler.
“It’s the third expo for the academy and we try to make it better each time, so lots of stuff has been done in and out of school,” said Saiyed.
Students benefited from working on the expo, even the students who just visited benefited and learned from the event.
“ It betters our people skills and allows others to get insight on what MedSci is all about,” said Earnest.
“It gives knowledge about the human body,” said Metzler.
“By learning people skills and learning more from the kids at the expo,” said Saiyed.
