Years after the initial film of the franchise, the prequel and sequel of Snow White and the Huntsman came out April 22. And it was horrible. The film is one corny cliche piled on top of the other and the central theme has been done thousands of times over.
The two queens who are the only slightly interesting characters are underused, expecting us to be interested in the two leads. Though those two are boring. The Huntsman is a rip off of Flynn Rider, albeit a very bad one, and the female lead was a rip off Merida. They also did not include Kristen Stewart’s Snow White, which was probably so they could have their two leads be a couple without complications. They only managed to make the film worse.
New characters introduced are comical, but really are only there to push the love theme the film makers are shoving to the audience.
Where the movie ultimately fails with its lovers is the lack of introduction. We see romance start to spark between the two when they are children, but they skip all the years of development and just expect us to adore them together.
The writing is simply one cliche line after another and lacks fluidity. It is difficult to get invested in the story since it feels like I have watched the same exact one many times before. On top of that, the plot twist is predictable and frustrating, nothing more.
The brilliant performances from all the actors is what manages to keep viewers awake through the movie. It is simply disappointing that the best actors are only onscreen for brief periods of time.
The movie is a disappointment, to say the very least. There was a lot of potential, but it was wasted on a boring theme and plot, with plenty of rushed details. It gets a 2 out of 5 stars.
