Sports are a big part of high school. A popular spring sport at Indian Trail High School and Academy is track. Students find great relief in the many events of the sport, such as the 800- meter run and hurdles.

Track is an excellent way to maintain a healthy body, as it works your muscles but is not quite a dangerous sport. IT senior Anmol Patel shared her experiences in track.

“It keeps me in unbelievable shape, and I have created many friendships,” she said.

Members of the team agree that they run for the fun of it. Patel’s favorite race is to 800-meter run.

“(Track is) where I met all my friends and learned who I was,” said Danielle Gassie, senior team captain.

Coach Brian Vanderhoef had a lot to say about worthy mentions of the season, including Armani Carmickel, who holds the best triple jump in the state of Wisconsin, and Madison Taylor, who holds a Top 10 ranking for the 2-mile run.

Vanderhoef describes his teams as very strong, and he hopes they will qualify for the State Track and Field meet.

Both the girls and boys teams are Indoor Kenosha Champions, which is the highlight of their season this far.

Vanderhoef says his goal for the remainder of the season is for the teams to remain healthy.

“Athletes who are injured do not perform well at the end of the year. As a coach, you just want your students to peak,” he said.

Patel and Gassie agree that their main goal for the season was to set new personal records.

This far in the season, both the girls and boys teams have had five indoor meets, with the girls beating 33 teams and taking 15 losses. The boys had 31 wins and 16 losses. There have been 10 outdoor meets so far this season, with more still remaining on the schedule at press time.
