The Hawk Shop is a fixture of the Indian Trail community, providing students with a place to buy all the common school-day amenities they require and then some.

However, while the store has remained constant, shoppers may notice a shake up in operations with the announcement that the Hawk Shop is now accepting credit cards. While this may sound inconspicuous, the thought and work behind the decision is notable and important.

One of the main reasons for this decision was the potential increase of revenue.

“We had a lot of people asking for us to get a credit card reader,” said Heather Belke, Business and Marketing teacher and the Hawk Shop advisor. “Between parents and teachers, many were always disappointed when we said we only took cash or check.”

“We fully expect to improve revenue in the store.  Schools who have already moved to this system have seen a larger increase in revenue, because of the convenience it provides for our customers,” she said.

In addition to credit cards, there will be a few more changes coming as well.

“We are hoping to now be open during basketball games in the future, because now it will be worth our time because we will get more sales from credit cards at the game,” Belke said.

In addition to this, the Hawk Shop will now accept Apple Pay.

The staff of the Hawk Shop will have to get used to these changes.

“There will be some new training for our staff,” Belke said.

“We are getting a completely new POS (point of sale) system for the school store, as ours had crashed last year.  They will need to learn how to import inventory, track our sales, and ring customers up.”

These new changes are expected to impact the shop, as well as IT as a whole.
