The Indian Trails Boy’s Tennis team’s 2017 season has commenced. With a current record of 7-7 overall and 6-1 in conference, the team has had a successful season.
“My biggest thing is growth. [This season] we took some players that had some raw athleticism and they’re now looking like more accomplished tennis players,” said Todd Anderson, the Indian Trail High School and Academy’s Boys Tennis team coach.
The team has a strong bond with each other, which is seen in their matches.
“They’re great guys and it’s always fun having them around. They’re like a family,” said Abraham Caballero, Indian Trail High School and Academy senior.
With their win on May 11, the team advanced to second place duals and have the chance of the conference title.
“I’m really looking forward to the conference tournament because with our team progressing at a fast rate we could easily win conference,” said Colin Bakkila, Indian Trail High School and Academy senior and five year tennis player.
“Our goal is to win the subsectionals and see if we can put at least one if not two of our teams into individual state,” said Anderson.
The players are confident in their abilities and are hopeful for the rest of the season.
“My personal goal for this season is to make it to [the state tournament],” said Bakkila.
The 2017 Boy’s Tennis Team has come very far and is still progressing.
“They’re playing smarter tennis. They’re in more matches against players that are probably better than them and they’ve turned close matches into wins. Because of that we are in the position that we are in,” said Anderson.
