The Indian Trail Girl Swim and Dive team, coached by Billy Gilbert, is made up of 30 talented and dedicated girls who have a love and passion for swim.
Just how talented is this team?
One of the major successes for the swim team during this year’s season that proved what a talented group of girls this team is made of was the junior varsity and varsity meet against Tremper, a major school rival. The meet took place Sept. 7 at Tremper High School and ended up with a victory for Indian Trail with a score of 94-92.
Another highlight of the season was the meet against Racine Case High School on Sept. 19, where the girls of Indian Trail won the meet 100-85. Team captains Caroline Yencha and Shelby Haines, both seniors, agreed one of the team’s best traits was its unity.
“For such a small team we do well against bigger teams,” said Yencha. “We also all get along really well.”
The team, made up of 22 swimmers and eight divers, is also doing better at conference than they have in the past two years.
Interested in joining the swim team next season? When asked why people should join the swim team captains had several reasons.
“We have really lit pasta parties,” said Yencha.
“Also, it’s beneficial to students because you get more support from other students, especially incoming freshmen. Swim is also one of the best sports for you because you use all of your body all the time,” said Haines.
