Indian Trail High School & Academy’s  2018 Homecoming was just as bright as its “home” theme.

Students participated in a variety of dress up days for Spirit Week, cheered on fall sports teams at a raucous pep assembly, lined Kenosha streets for a parade of IT floats and Homecoming court pageantry, and filled stadium stands to cheer on their Hawks football team.

Finally, on the night of Sept. 29, about 1,100 students flooded through the halls leading into the cafeteria that was transformed into a dazzling wonderland with a dance floor and a throwback DJ.

As students walked into the glittering room, a photo booth was set up for everyone. Students got photos and then jumped back in line for more. A table was set up next to the booth filled with hats, fluffy scarves, and other props for the photos. Students had a choice if they wanted their pictures in black and white or color.

“The line was consistently long. For a free photobooth, I kept getting in line multiple times also,” said Armando Morales, a Communications Academy senior.

But the dance floor is where all the action was at. Many students were jumping up and down and doing the boogy. Multiple Hawks said the enjoyment was dancing with friends and loved ones.

“I come to homecoming to dance with my friends and have a great time, I’m comfortable dancing in front of everyone since everyone else is,” said Bradley Palmen, a General Studies senior.

Hawks showed up dressed elegant and ready to party. Communications freshman Gabriel Graczyk said he stressed some about his outfit, con

ering it was his first year attending homecoming.

“I was worried people would judge me on how I looked and I started to regret my outfit, but by the end of the night I forgot about what I was wearing and just enjoyed myself on the dance floor,” Graczk said.

The day before at the pep assembly, school officials announced seniors Jaylen Grant and Kelli Galusha as 2018 Homecoming king and queen, after the homecoming court walked across the gym with the spotlight on them. The court was acknowledged a second time at the homecoming dance.

At the end of the night, students expressed they were tired and ready for sleep, but as the Hawks walked out the doors they were greeted with a cheesy surprise. Teachers handed out full boxes of hot pizza to anyone that wanted them, ending the shimmering, sweaty night on an upbeat note.
