Meanwhile, Indian Trail’s girls’ team has posted a 3-15 record (0-10 in conference). The young players have identified their struggles, and they plan on using a very specific mentality in order to string together some wins throughout the remainder of this season and for seasons beyond.
“A main goal for our team is being able to play as one rather than individual players,” said Kalina Winslow, a guard on the girls’ varsity basketball team. “I think after this is accomplished, we can be a better overall team.”
One thing that every player seems to have an abundance of is the flat out enjoyment of playing.
Aside from what can be worked on, the girls have a lot to be proud of so far this season.
“One thing that we have excelled in is our defense. I think that we’ve improved a lot, but there is always more room for improvement,” said Winslow, a General Studies sophomore.
The defense has come through multiple times, holding Messmer High School to a ridiculous 20 points in a win earlier this year. Among the other impressive performances on the defensive end were games against Westosha Central High School (48-26) and St. Joseph High School (62-54), both being wins.
Overall, the girls have a lot to look forward to in the coming seasons as they circulate through the rebuilding phase. Despite having a season that may look bleak on paper, the young talent on this team will achieve veteran status in just a couple of years and should be expected to possess a great amount of experience behind them, seeing that there are underclassmen already getting minutes.
With young talent on one end, and a team that is pushing for state on the other end, Indian Trail has a lot to look forward to when it comes to their budding basketball program.
