Mo’ne Davis
Being the first female to ever pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series in 2014, Mo’ne Davis is a pretty big deal.
The former South Philadelphia Taney Dragons pitcher made a huge stride for women when she stepped on the mound and struck out eight players while simultaneously becoming the first African American girl to participate in the LLWS.
Shortly following her juvenile superstardom, Davis was named Sports Illustrated Kids’ “SportsKid of the Year’ along with being named one of ESPNW Impact 25 that same year.
Now 17 years of age, Davis has committed to play softball at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.
Davis’ contribution to all women in that she dominated the LLWS is something that will endlessly be acknowledged as a historic moment.
Gabby Douglas
Born in the year 1995, Gabby Douglas is a world famous Olympic gymnast. Starting the sport at the age of 6, Douglas quickly advanced her skills and won a state competition in just two years.
She eventually became the 2012 Olympic all around champion, being the first woman of color to achieve this. She has won eight gold medals and one silver medal throughout her career.
All of her success earned her a documentary, The Gabby Douglas Story, filmed by Lifetime about her life and journey to stardom in the sports world.
Young aspiring gymnasts all around the world look to her for inspiration.
Catwoman
After debuting in issue No.1 of ‘Batman’ in June 1940, Catwoman, known at the time as The Cat, the bullwhip equipped criminal, has grown to become the most popular female villain/antiheroine according to IGN’s list of top 100 comic book villains.
Introduced as a super villain to Batman with mass appeal, the now antiheroine has become a fan favorite and the closest thing the caped crusader has known to love.
Catwoman has earned herself many solo comic books and has been portrayed in Batman related media by women from Julie Newmar to Michelle Pfeiffer to Camren Bicondova. The character has appeared in tons of video games and fans have proclaimed her as one of the most fun to play as in many games.
Despite being a cat burglar who has done much wrong, she has still proven many of her actions to be for the right reasons.
Though she may not be the greatest role model for anyone, Catwoman still shows that women can be strong and get the job done.
