Ever since we were little, we were told that once completing high school, the next step is college.
Although many believe that it’s better to go to college the upcoming fall after you graduate, it is okay if you decide to take a gap year.
Studies show that 60 percent of those who took a gap year figure out what they want to study, according to the Year Out Group. It gives young adults time to decide what they want to do.
Many high schoolers are overwhelmed with deciding what they are going to do with their next step in life. Those who choose to go to college may not know what they want to do in the beginning. A lot of those students change their major throughout their time at college. During a gap year, you could work and save money while you decide what you would like to do.
Those who take a gap year can gain experience depending on what eld they go into which could bene t them in the future.
According to a May 2017 CNBC news report, 90 percent of students who take a gap year return to school within a year and graduate on time.
Although a gap year can be beneficial, it is so you can take a year off to make a decision or to take a break, but the goal is to eventually go back to school. There are people who decide to take a gap year, but unfortunately don’t go back.
Go to college or take a gap year. Either way you are gaining something, and you shouldn’t be ashamed or feel guilty for choosing the latter and not going to college right away.
