Is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actually good?

Written by Jacob Kielan, Staff Writer

The last movie in the Skywalker saga is a fantastic edition to one of the most popular series in the world. The Rise of Skywalker brings in some of the best visuals, soundtrack, and acting in the whole series.

In the first few seconds of the movie, I was so drawn in that I didn’t want to take my eyes off the screen. When Kylo Ren went to Exegol to meet with Palpatine, I was amazed at what Emperor Palpatine was doing in the shadows; he was the puppet master of the First Order for years and no one knew about it. This information makes sense.

Darth Sideous wouldn’t just die, he is the most powerful being in the galaxy. Leia helps Rey with the rest of her Jedi training because it is revealed that Luke helps her become a Jedi. Leia’s Jedi training is shown in The Last Jedi, when she survives an explosion up in space. Seeing Luke and Leia train in the flashback scene is so interesting and cool; I want to see more of it.
The dynamic relationship between Daisy Ridley as Rey and Adam Driver as Kylo plays out well on screen. The force connection between them makes sense now as one is a Skywalker and one is a Palpatine. Great acting and lm direction powered the battle scene on the fallen Death Star. Driver really brought it when Harison Ford came back as Han Solo in ghost form; you really saw the emotion on the broken Death Star.

The story is the complete opposite of The Force Awakens, and it’s perfect.

Instead of Rey trying to nd Luke Skywalker, she is trying to nd Darth Sideous. Kylo isn’t trying to become a Dark Sith, he is trying to become Ben Solo again.

The original story was a good idea, but it isn’t the point of Star Wars. In Star Wars, the balance to the force is inside the Chosen One and not destroy- ing the Sith or Jedi or even both. Qui-Gon Gin was right about Anakin being the Chosen One. Anakin used both the light and dark side, but he learned to become good again when he saved Luke on the Death Star. Luke trained Ben Solo and Rey, yet Ben was turned to the dark side and Rey to the light. Ben was brought back to the light side on the Death Star just like his grandfather. Rey has Darth Sideous’ blood and uses the dark side’s power but she sticks with the light which equals balance.

I love the ending of the movie. Rating: Five out of five stars.
