Map of the Soul: 7, released on Feb. 21, is the second album of BTS’s album series Map of the Soul. It consists of 20 songs featuring Sia in their title track “ON.” The album itself is very different from their past ones in which instead of a photo book they have many posters within the packaging.
To begin with, the title track “ON” went hand in hand with their past song “Not Today.” Not only that but their solo songs also went along with their Wings album concept released in 2016. Their solo songs are all intriguing, although “Inner Child” sung by Taehyung really stood out to me the most.
The song “Inner Child” is powerful and its melodies speak for itself. Taehyung sings to his younger self, explaining how life’s difficulties and changes will one day make up for themselves and he will finally be happy.
“Louder than Bombs,” “Black Swan,” “00:00,” are also some of the songs that stood out to me, but “We are Bullet Proof: the Eternal” took the top spot. The song has a very unique electronic dance music (EDM) beat. Just listening to it in one go, you can feel all the emotions coming together as one, making you feel numb to the world.
“We are Bulletproof: the Eternal,” is an astonishing song in that you see that all seven members have grown together as a family and are still trying to overcome obstacles along the way. The melody itself conveys the emotional hardships all seven members went through to achieve their goal. In the song, they sing “we are together bulletproof, we are forever bulletproof,” meaning no obstacle can stand in the way of them now.
Overall, all 20 tracks are extraordinary. They offer various genres and inspire many different passions. Their solos are exceptional, topping their album Wings. Everything in this album was magnificent and had me in mixed emotions. I give this album a 5 out of 5.
