Roberto Clemente was one of the first Puerto Rican professional baseball players in Major League Baseball. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 18 seasons, and won many awards including the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 1966, and the National League batting leader in 1961, 1964, 1965, and 1967.
During his offseasons he would do charity work in Latin American and Caribbean countries by sending food and sports equipment to those lacking such. Although he died young, his success was widely acknowledged and he was the first Caribbean and Latin-American player to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
