Many know Serena Williams as a tennis legend, but did you know that off the court she has been a Goodwill Ambassador since 2011 or that she helped build schools in Jamaica and Kenya?

At age 14, Serena Willaims and her sister, Venus Willaims, became professional tennis players. Serena won her first grand slam in 1999 and continued to win 22 more through her career playing singles.

Later in her career, Serena created a community center as a resource for residents affected by gun violence in her hometown. She named the center Yetunde Price Resource Center after her older sister who had been killed by gun violence in 2003. She also built schools in underprivileged countries and heavily supported UNICEF schools for Africa initiative, providing education to marginalized children.

Her epic legacy left people wondering where it all began which kick started the movie King Richard, released in 2021. Based on Richard Williams, Serena and Venus’ dad, the movie is about his dedication to his daughter, swearing that they both were ‘born to be stars’
