James Baldwin, born August 2nd, 1924 in Harlem, New York, was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Baldwin was a playwright, essayist, novelist, and a majorly influential advocate for the American Civil Rights Movement. He is known for his groundbreaking literary exploration of homosexual and interracial relationships as well as racial and social justice issues, specifically from the perspective of the American Black experience. To this day his works are still analyzed and widely read throughout the world.
