Do you want to help something as small as a bumble bee, or something as monumental as aiding and helping the homeless?
The Environmental Club is certainly seeking new members, from freshmen through seniors. The club is all about spreading awareness of environmental issues and helping our environment.

In the first weeks of the school year, they’re already planning on helping our environment after school by planting 200 Milkweed!
The club will also be in the Homecoming parade. Club advisor Mr. Schmus says that the club will have another float for Homecoming.
Joining a club, especially as an underclassman, helps one make new friends and can inspire some new interests. Be it in leadership, arts, or in this case, helping the environment, clubs can push students in various helpful ways. Even with the impact of inspiring someone, the most a club can offer is the social aspect.

Sophia Ibarra, current senior and president of the club, definitely agrees. “I joined originally in freshman year because a lot of my friends were joining and I guess I kind of caught on and became president in junior year.” Anyone can join this club and meet people who are interested in keeping our Earth green.
As the school year begins, the Environmental Club comes up with plans and activities for the school. One of the club’s main projects is a pollen patch that is located in the fields outside of the music wing. This project is an exciting one for the club. Mrs. Massicotte-Kollar is thrilled about its prospects. “My favorite though is the pollen patch, because it’s a work in progress but when it’s done …ten years from now that field is going to be beautiful.”
The plans for the club don’t stop at planting. In winter, the club president talked about plans that are incredible for the city. Ibarra says, “I really want to make knot blankets that we can give to the Women’s Children Horizons or some sort of homeless shelter…” Ibarra wants to do winter activities and if people join, they can all make a difference for their community.
