Imagine being able to put a full-sized keyboard into your pocket. Impossible? Not anymore, thanks to the creation of the Celluon Epic. The Epic laser keyboard can turn any flat, opaque surface into a full-sized keyboard just by syncing it up to your phone’s or tablet’s Bluetooth. It also functions as a mouse for your PC or Mac computers.
You’re probably questioning how a laser can do all of this. Well, when your finger passes through a “key” on the projected keyboard, a sensor in the device picks up the broken laser, just like a trip wire, and sends a message to the computer or device that tells it what is being typed. The Epic works with Android, iOS, Mac OS X, Windows, and any other major operating systems.
The Big Question
So is this really better than a physical keyboard? Most reviews say “no” to that question due to the sensitivity of it. Celluon even says that you will have to peck at the keyboard like a chicken until comfortable with typing in this new way.
Celluon says that Epic is intended to reduce stress on your hands but is it really worth the struggle? Maybe with a little work this could be a solid product that will be on everyone’s wish list. With a current price of $170, the quality of the product might work its way up to that price, but as of now, not quite.
