The only thing that can overpower the sounds of strikes at Guttormsen Recreation Center bowling alley is the sound of laughter from the Indian Trail High School & Academy’s varsity girls bowling team. These girls are lighting up the lanes with a seasonal average of 192 and a record of 9-3. They have their hearts and minds set on the state championships this year and nothing seems to slow them down when spirits are so high.

The girls have put the hours in on the lanes, worked hard and exceeded expectations of their coaches to get where they are at now. After finishing second at the district tournament at Castle Lanes in Racine last month, IT’s bowlers have moved to the first spot in their district.

“All the girls this year are standing out as each has improved as a unit,” said Chris Rettmueller, Indian Trail’s girls varsity bowling co-coach.

Varsity bowlers Alexa Fallabeck and Montana Tobin have also taken home individual wins on the team. Fallabeck won the district scratch singles compe- tition and an automatic berth to the state’s singles tournament. Tobin won the singles competition in the handicap division two years in a row. Both girls received scholarships because of their wins.

“I’ve improved a lot with my coach’s help. I have a lot of memories with my team. They’re all really nice and funny,” said Montana Tobin, a varsity bowler and General Studies sophomore.

The team offers its members a great sense of camaraderie as well as building up each girl’s individual self confidence. They need to believe in themselves to succeed in this sport, Rettmueller said. Bowling requires mental and physical skills. IT’s team is proving to have both.
