The girls varsity bowling team has earned its place in Hawks sport history this year after qualifying for the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club Champion- ship for the very first time. The girls traveled to Green Bay last month to compete at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley at the division one level. After 15 games and hours of cheers and chants, the Hawks finished their bowling season with the No.4 spot at state.
“It was very fun and exciting going to state for the first time,” said Devney Wynn, IT varsity bowler and MedSci sophomore.
Competing in girls singles for Indian Trail were bowlers Alexa Fallabeck and Savannah Gerou. Both girls bowled outstanding with Gerou ending her series with a score of 559 and Fallabeck with a series of 698. Fallabeck advanced to semifinals and had a final series score of 548.
“I was nervous yet really excited for it being my first time at state. I just bowled the best I could and had a really good support system cheering me on,” said Alexa Fallabeck, IT varsity bowler and General Studies senior.
Overall Fallabeck finished with a total series of 1245, putting her in 12th place in the singles competition.
These bowlers have a lot to be excited about – the number one goal they’ve had since last year has been to make it to the State Championships. This achieve- ment has been no small task for the team; they’ve put in the hours on the lanes, the energy into their shots, and given words of encouragement to each other every step of the way.
“I’m very proud about how the team performed! We came together as a team very well,” said Savannah Gerou, IT varsity bowler and General Studies sophomore.
Ending off a great season like this does come with some painful goodbyes for the team. This year’s graduating girls bowlers include Michelle Rettmueller, Alexa Fallabeck, Melanie Ware, Emily Powell and Jordan Adams.
“I will miss having them there (at matches). They’ll always be with us no matter what,” said Gerou.
