Of all the art classes offered at Indian Trail High School & Academy, there are few that are exclusive to the Communications Academy. When Communications freshmen first enter the school, they are introduced into the world of Photoshop by none other than Katie Sciarra.
“In the Communications Academy, we have specific curriculum so the graphic design piece builds from my year, freshman foundations,” Sciarra said. “Onto the sophomore year where they have advanced graphic design, that incorporates higher level Photoshop work, introduction of Illustrator, and working in the graphic design field of typography.”
Among this year’s Communications students, one stands out to Sciarra: Jason Marker. He is a Communications sophomore, currently in Sciarra’s graphic design class. Marker has been practicing art for about five years and doesn’t have any intention of stopping.
“I just always liked how art looked, and I’ve always just tried to copy the art and it just became what I liked to do, and I practiced a lot,” Marker said.
Favorite media being a pencil and paper, he is most proud of his drawing of his eye. Starting with a light sketch to a finished piece of art, even Sciarra says it’s one of her favorite pieces.
Being only a sophomore, Marker isn’t entirely sure what he wants to do with art later in life but he does want to continue on.
“I would love to continue in art and get a full-time job in any art degree,” says Marker.
Like many Communications students here at IT, Marker will continue to grow in his art and hopefully one day become an artist.
