Some of the closest groups in the school are the music students. They have been with each other for four years, and every year they have to say goodbye to their seniors. This year the orchestra will have many great players graduating and going on with their lives. Not all will be continuing to play their instruments, but one student will definitely keep playing the bass.

“I will be going to college to major in music performance,” said KMA senior Bianca Cordova.

Cordova was accepted into the performing arts school, Juilliard in January. She has been playing the bass for around nine years after being inspired by her cousin who plays bass in a band.

But Cordova’s not the only Hawk musician who has had something good happen to her.

“I’m in a group called the Tremper Golden Strings and we actually went on a performance tour in China two summers ago,” said Mary Kelly Hutchinson, a general studies senior. “We performed with three other groups in the country and performed in Beijing, Shanghai; places that are really hard to perform in, so it was a great honor to play for the Chinese people.”

Hutchinson has been playing for six years, at first giving up the violin but later picking it back up again. She plans on continuing for the rest of her life.

“[Orchestra] did help me make a lot of friends,” said Communications senior Liz Hanson. “Most of my friends were because of orchestra.”

Graduating means saying goodbye to the friends made over the past few years. Cordova said she will miss the friends that are not graduating with her, and Hutchinson said she will miss not just the music, but the people she’d has formed relationships with.
