The boys and girls track and field season is now in full swing. The indoor season just ended and the Hawks have started out fast. The team won one of the most important events, the Indoor County meet, and have placed well in many others.

“We have done very well both girls and boys. We have some young kids stepping up on varsity and contributing well,” said senior runner Manny Jones.

The team have gone through transition, losing its first senior class of runners last season. Coaches have looked for younger athletes to step up and take on bigger roles while more experienced athletes have helped lead the Hawks.

“I like how everyone cheers each other on and is always encouraging to one another,” said sophomore Kaitlyn Trifone.

Athletes on the track and field team all have different individual events but it is the team environment that makes the sport exciting and fun to participate in. The cheering and help for teammates and coaches have been key in all the athletes’ success this season.

“I like competing with my friends. I enjoy how approachable everyone is and how everybody makes practices more fun,” said Jones.

With the outdoor season beginning, the athletes look to continue to improve,

“We need to continue to get stronger, faster, and improve our endurance so we can all qualify for state,” added Jones.
