It’s that time of year again, when the girls and boys volleyball teams slam into their season! Many great successes and heartbreaking losses have taken upon the Hawks this year, but the teams have been putting in a lot of time and dedication to have the best season they can.
Girls Volleyball
The girls have been fighting hard with pure dedication and hard work on and off the court, said Coach Ashley Kuehl. She was pleased with the team’s second-place finish, falling short only to Bradford High School in the championship game.
“I’m very pleased with the amount of uniqueness from the players … that they all come together as one while working hard and playing hard,” Kuehl said.
The girls team had victories against Racine Park High School and St.Joseph Catholic Academy this season, which were very pleasing, team members agreed. One thing they’re still very upset about was their fall against Tremper High School in four games. According to Kuehl, Tremper’s coach commented that Indian Trail was the first team this season to put up a fight.
“We have become the team that everyone hates to play because we’ve become such a scrappy team, which means getting touches on blocks then we dive all over and people dig that up while getting some great attacks in at our opponents,” Kuehl said.
The team’s last regular season conference tournament is Saturday (that’s Homecoming), beginning at 9 a.m., at Racine Case High School.
Boys Volleyball
The boys volleyball has many returning varsity players, which is a huge advantage for them against other teams that they play.
Indian Trail started the season with a third place finish in its first tournament which included the boys beating the team they lost to during the first round of state last year. It was a huge accomplishment, senior Jon Quinn said.
The team has been clicking really well this season, and several reasons for the players’ success is having momentum on the court and staying positive and confident.
“So far we are meshing really well together and everything between the fellas is going good,” Quinn said.
A low point this season was their loss against Tremper High School. They went into the game confident, knowing Tremper had weapons but weren’t sure on how they would match up, says the team.
“We have the moments of being up and being down, but we just need to level out that rollercoaster in order to start going up on the rankings,” Quinn said.
One of their most intense games this season has been against Case High School where they went to five games, with the score being extremely close. It was definitely a nail biter! But the Hawks pulled through with the win! The team’s last regular season conference tournament at home is Saturday, Oct. 22, starting at 8 a.m.
