Five Guys serves up delicious, but overly-priced burgers

RamisaUnless you’ve been living under a rock, “Five Guys” has been a part of your everyday vocabulary for the past two months. The highly anticipated burger joint opened in early October at the east end of the developing “Bull’s eye” strip. I’m no hater of the Burger King chain, but Kenosha opening up a proper burger joint makes me dislike this boring old town a little less.

Five Guys has expanded to more than 1,000 different locations in 47 states and six Canadian provinces, so it’s safe to say that it’s a pretty poppin’ chain. They claim to
have 250,000 possible ways to order a burger, which is a great way to lure in picky eaters. They also claim that their ground beef is always fresh and their food is never frozen, to preserve freshness.

With all that being said, I went to go try it out myself.

Right off the bat, I was thrown off by the pricing of the their menu. Eight bucks for a burger? Six bucks for fries? Now I take back what I said about Burger King! But they weren’t lying when they said they had thousands of ways to order a burger. I just wanted to keep on adding more toppings, but then I look back at the long line of people behind me.

For such a widely anticipated fast food restaurant, you would think that they’d make a larger area for people to eat, but the placement of the tables make the aisles so narrow which makes it harder for people to come and go. The sack of our that lines up with the customer line is so randomly placed, and it makes the lines so much more crowded. The loud orders being called out adds to the chaotic atmosphere.

The atmosphere didn’t set off a good first impression, but I didn’t want it to cloud my judgement on the quality of the food. After they shouted out my order and almost made me deaf, I walked around at least five minutes to find a seat and start eating. I wasn’t in the best mood after the rush, but when I took my first bite of my burger, I forgot all about it. The cheeseburger was the most fresh-tasting burger I’ve had in my 17 years of living. The meat really made the difference! The cajun fries were unbelievable. They were well seasoned and well done, and I just couldn’t get enough!

Overall, the food was fantastic, but the atmosphere and price throw it all off. The food is reasonably priced considering its quality, but regularly dropping eight bucks on a burger isn’t really ideal.
