Every year the seniors of the Communication Academy hold a showcase, presenting all the art they’ve created over the past four years. They show off all the skills they’ve learned and display the finally produced pieces.
Sandra Bleser, an Indian Trail art teacher and the person in charge of the showcase, expressed pride over her seniors. It’s always an incredible experience to see everything they are really capable of doing, she said. Also, to have the ability to watch them grow through the work they have accomplished.
The showcase was a moment for her to just sit back and watch as these seniors finally got the chance to take over.
The event took place on May 9 in the Indian Trail commons at 6 p.m. This year wide and diverse creativity was brought to the table. The types of art displayed were traditional art, photography, advertising, journalism, video production and makeup design.
“Art has really given me an outlet to let some emotions go that usually can’t be let go of, but I really have the ability to do that once I am creating new pieces,” says Alana Sims, a senior Communications Academy student.
Before entering the academy freshman year, these seniors had no idea what was in store for them. But the growth that has taken place over the past four years has been quite a journey, they explained. They didn’t have high expectations for what was to come. But as the seniors continued every year through the program, they started to find their own path, and creativity was set free.
“Freshman year I wasn’t very outgoing with my art, I just did the essentials. But now as a senior I go beyond what is asked and put all my effort into the art being created,” said Jayden Foster, another Communications senior.
The seniors had to create a final piece that they would add to their showcase as a large portion of their final grade. Many students came up with very clever ideas from prom dress designs to game creation to a toy brand production.
“Be an encouragement to others, stick to your passion, and never give up. You’re going to run into a lot of doors that will be shut, but don’t let that discourage you. Learning only goes so far, but encouragement will lead you even further,” said Bleser,
As this being the seniors farewell to the academy, they had a few words they wanted to say to the staff.
“A huge thank you for putting up with everything of mine, and being so patient. Thank you for always pushing me to be the best that I can be,” says Sims.
“Thank you for believing in me, and being my friend. Thank you for not only encouraging me but our whole class to do our best to succeed. It is much appreciated, ” says Foster.
