Senior’s creative light shines

Thirty-nine Communications Academy seniors, displayed the best of four years worth of work at the senior showcase last week.

“Senior Showcase is a portfolio where students display the best of individual skills, qualifications, training and experience within the Communication Academy,” said Sandra Bleser, Communications Academy media arts teacher.

Student displays included numerous types of art from traditional art and illustrations to various forms of digital production including journalism, graphic design, public relations, advertising and film.

Students and the community benefit from the showcase in a variety of ways. It allows the students the opportunity to explore more fully who they are and what they can do. They are also able to provide evidence of personal, formal and informal learning, Bleser said.

“It provided me with future job opportunities or internships,” said Mariano Tenuta, who  plans to study broadcast journalism in college next fall.

He enjoyed meeting different people from the community who came out to see all the student work.

“I learned today what Mrs. Bleser was preparing us for and it paid off. Everything she did for us was amazing,” Tenuta said.

His favorite part was seeing his dad there.

“His face was astonished,” Tenuta said.

The showcase serves several purposes, Bleser said, including helping students to reflect, assess strengths, interests and gaps in learning. It also helps students develop skills in documenting lifelong learning experiences and understand that the process is just as important as the product.

Senior showcase is the perfect place to show many teachers, families and the public about the hard and talented work the Communications Academy seniors have done, she said.
